Development of Medical Devices using Electrochemical Sterilization Technology

Our intention is to solve difficult medical problems using the innovative electrochemical sterilization technology developed by Dr. Akihiro Okamoto from the National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS).

We are developing minimally invasive and highly effective medical devices for “biofilm infections” such as orthopedic implant infections and wound infections, which are difficult to solve with conventional surgery or drug treatment.

Takaaki Kakihana

CEO

Takaaki began his career as a physical therapist, working for ten years at Tohoku University Hospital while conducting both basic and clinical research as part of his graduate studies.

In 2017, he earned a Ph.D. in Disability Sciences from the Graduate School of Tohoku University.

From 2019 to 2020, Takaaki joined the Japan Biodesign Innovation Fellowship Program. Through this fellowship, he acquired expertise in medical device development.

Since 2021, he has been appointed as a Project Assistant Professor in the Biodesign Division at the Translational Research Center of the University of Tokyo Hospital. He has been actively involved in supporting the commercialization of research seeds and helping Japanese medical device manufacturers expand their operations internationally.

Akihiro Okamoto

Akihiro has been leading cutting-edge research on the electrochemical analysis and control of microorganisms for over 15 years.

In 2011, Akihiro earned a Ph.D. in Engineering from the Graduate School of the University of Tokyo. Afterward, he served as an Assistant Professor at the University of Tokyo starting in 2013.

From 2016, he took on a leading role at the National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS) in Japan, conducting research aimed at applications in environmental, energy, and medical fields. As a bridge between academia and industry, he has been actively involved in promoting technology transfer through numerous collaborative research projects with companies.

Akihiro is also a visiting faculty member at the California Institute of Technology, where he is actively engaged in developing new technologies through interdisciplinary collaborations.
